Health & Safety in practical Science for early career teachers - 16th December
As well as knowing how to work safely, new teachers also have to develop the skills needed to run a successful practical lesson. As part of the course we will consider what this means and offer suggestions and tips based on CLEAPSS advice and guidance.

Planning an effective Science week - 23rd January - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
Cost: £20
Develop a better understanding of planning an effective Science week. You will be able to share ideas and best practice with other teachers enabling your Science week to be as impactful and inspiring as possible.
Literacy in KS3 and GCSE Science - 26th February - 13:30 to 16:30 - Remote
Cost: £50
You will reflect on literacy-related reasons for underperformance in science, and how best-practice literacy teaching can overcome these problems. You will take away practical approaches that are known to work well in science – such as introducing and using keywords, reading and understanding exam questions, and developing structured extended answers.

Develop subject knowledge and teaching strategies to support students in using and manipulating equations in science. This course will also cover common mistakes, questions and misconceptions.

Building and developing literacy skills in science - from KS3 to GCSE and beyond - 5th June - 09:30 to 15:30 - St Clement Danes School, Chorleywood

You will reflect on literacy-related reasons for underperformance in science, and how best-practice literacy teaching can overcome these problems. You will take away practical approaches that are known to work well in science, and be able to develop your own - introducing and using keywords, sentences and paragraphs; purposeful talk in science; techniques for reluctant or literacy-poor science learners; reading and understanding science texts and exam questions; forms of scientific writing; and developing structured extended writing and answers.

The aim of this course is to provide guidance to those wishing to embed STEM careers into the Science curriculum. We will discuss the Gatsby Benchmarks to ensure that your Science department is doing all it can to promote careers in STEM. This course is perfect for any science teacher or leader.

Science Leaders Network
These meetings are a great opportunity to meet fellow science leaders, sharing challenges and successes.
These sessions are suitable for new and established leaders within science departments. They are also suitable for aspiring science leaders.
All network meetings are free.
Development planning, SEF and data - 12th December - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
Develop a better understanding of the development planning and using data. We will also share and discuss development planning experiences to support you throughout this process. Optional spreadsheet training towards the end of the meeting.
Financing and recruitment - 13th February - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
Develop a better understanding of finance from a whole school and department point of view. We will discuss how to prioritise what to spend money on. We will also look at the recruitment process, including discussions of how to maximise the chance of recruiting the best teachers.
Health & Safety for HODs - 13th March - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
Develop a better understanding of health and safety from a department point of view. We will discuss the responsibility of science teachers and science leaders. We will also discuss how to ensure risk assessments are useful and effective.
Action planning - 6th May - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
Develop a better understanding of how to lead change within a science department. This has been scheduled just before departmental gain time starts, meaning that we can discuss ways of supporting teachers with any development tasks. We will also discuss how to prioritise what needs to be done during the final term.
STEM careers and the Gatsby benchmarks - 3rd July - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
Develop a better understanding of STEM careers and how to embed them into the Science curriculum. We will discuss the Gatsby Benchmarks to ensure that your Science department is doing all it can to promote careers in STEM.
Overseas Teacher Network
This network meeting is for overseas secondary science teachers who are working in Bucks, Herts, and Berks. We want to support you through your journey as a science teacher by connecting you with others who are in the same role as yourself and with people who have experienced what you are going through.
It will be lead by Cheyenne, an overseas teacher who is now a Head of Science and by Clare, a senior leader and science teacher who supported Cheyenne when she started.
It will be an opportunity for you to talk to others, be given key pointers to support you and for you to be welcomed into the family of science teachers in this area.
All network meetings are free.
Curriculum - 11th December - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
We will be discussing the National Curriculum for science. How to cover all aspects of the curriculum. Where to find resources to help and which topics are hardest to teach. Ideas of good practise will be shared. Exam boards and exam requirements will also be discussed if time!
Physics Teachers Network
These meetings are a great opportunity to meet fellow physics teachers, discussing successes and challenges. Sessions will focus on sharing best practice. These sessions are suitable for new and established physics teachers. They are also suitable for those teaching physics out of specialism.

This session will focus on the challenges of Maths in Physics, looking at how we can support students with their maths skills.
Modelling in Physics - 4th February - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
This session will focus on the importance and the challenges of modelling in Physics. We will focus on teaching a number of tricky topics that can be supported by the use of effective modelling.
Encouraging girls into Physics - 25th March - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
This session will focus on the importance and the challenges of encouraging girls into Physics. We will look at a variety of strategies that can be used to encourage girls to take up Physics and Engineering beyond GCSE.
Stretching the most able - 20th May - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote

This session will focus on the importance and the challenges of stretching the most able in Physics.
The biggest misconceptions - 26th June - 16.00 to 17.00 - Remote
This session will focus on the some of the biggest misconceptions in Physics. We will discuss different ways of identifying and teaching these.
