Working Scientifically in Primary Science - 11th, 18th and 25th Jan 15.30-16.30 - Three session course - Remote - £100/150* - Info and booking

This course will provide an overview of what working scientifically means, considering the 5 enquiry types and skills within science. Develop your confidence in identifying enquiry types. Also identify which skills are used in practical science and how they can be developed within your class and school. You will explore ways of ensuring that practical science provides coverage and progression for the children that you teach.

Improve your confidence in teaching science through gaining the tools to plan and carry out effective learning for your pupils. Join us as we prepare to celebrate the theme of Time for British Science Week 2024.

Our annual Getting Ready for British Science Week to bring you a session will full of ideas and resources to support your school on getting involved with British Science Week 2024 taking place on 8th to 17th March 2024.

‘Time’ as a theme offers a huge range of topics to delve into as part of your British Science Week 2024 activities, which links with multiple areas across science, technology, engineering and maths.

We will look at planning engaging and fun activities to inspire students, as well as to ease the planning process for teachers and subject leaders. With free resource links and themed activities, you will be ready to celebrate this important week in the school calendar!

Data logging – Using Micro:bits in Science Lessons - 7th Feb - St Clement Danes School, Chorleywood - 13.00-16.00 - £50/100* - Info and booking

This course will introduce you to the micro:bit, a small micro-computer, which can be used to record data such as light, temperature and sound. You will learn how to use the device as a datalogger, how to view the stored data and how to use data handling software to represent it in tables, charts and graphs. Throughout the afternoon we will explore how the device can support science learning and you will leave with the skills and ideas needed to incorporate data logging across your science curriculums.

Learn how to supervise, assist and support the learning of science as a teaching assistant as well as considering safety and children with different needs.

You will have the opportunity to consider the nature and content of the year 6 science curriculum, how to develop creative activities that build on prior learning and how to use diagnostic teaching to identify and address gaps in knowledge and skills.

School pupils are likely to have missed some core learning which will require your long-term curriculum map to be adjusted in the short-term. This course supports subject leaders to clearly define the curriculum across the school and enable them to effectively support teachers, implementing it successfully in the classroom.

This course examines the latest developments in primary science assessment. Teachers and subject leaders will understand the role of both formative and summative assessment in primary science and know how to implement them in their schools. It explores strategies for assessment and develops confidence to make reliable teacher assessment of learning in science and identify children’s next steps.

This course will provide you with a manageable approach to planning and teaching primary science. This course will provide a manageable approach to planning and delivering EYFS science.
